The Home Depot to Receive 50 MW from Largest Planned Solar Power Project in the U.S. in 2023
Just weeks after announcing a solar energy partnership with Enel Green Power, The Home Depot has entered a new solar energy purchase of 50 MW from Invenergy’s newest Samson Solar Energy Center. Upon completion in 2023, it will be the largest solar power plant in the U.S.
The center is expected to generate 1,310-megawatts of clean energy -- that’s enough to power nearly 300,000 American homes. The Home Depot is one of eight corporations to enter into an unprecedented number of power purchase agreements for this project and receive a supply of emission-less energy.
In addition to The Home Depot’s Enel Green Power solar energy purchase earlier this year and a wind energy purchase with EDP Renewables North America in 2017, the company is steadily moving toward its goal to acquire 335 MW of renewable and alternative energy by 2025.
Together, these renewable energy purchases expand The Home Depot’s energy options and reduce the company’s carbon footprint by tapping into green energy produced off-site. To learn more about The Home Depot’s sustainability goals, read the 2020 Responsibility Report.
