Helping a Home Depot Dad Overcome Hardship

Dave Dohme is the kind of person who can make something out of anything. In fact, he’s spent 21 years at The Home Depot doing just that – helping customers solve their problems and find answers to their DIY questions.

“He’s a definite team player. Dave works really hard at making sure that our team works together,” said Ramon Estevez, store manager of Store 6357 in Clearwater, Florida.

So when associates heard that Dave’s daughter, Melissa, was a victim of a domestic abuse attack, they rallied to support him and his family. Melissa’s injuries were severe, and Dave was out of work for weeks while caring for her. The Homer Fund, a nonprofit charity that takes care of Home Depot associates in need, stepped in to help with his past due household bills so Dave could focus on Melissa’s recovery.

Now, five years later, Melissa is safe and healthy and has a happy ending to her story: she married the first responder who saved her life.
