Versatility and Adaptability: A new design term for storage has hit the market – “specialized storage.” Storage solutions in this category provide unique ways to repurpose space and accommodate for specific home needs. Modular storage pieces like cubbies, for example, work well to organize kitchens, play rooms and bathrooms. Built-in, locker-style storage is popular for children’s coats, book bags and shoes in areas like drop zones or mud rooms.
3. Maximizing Space for Custom Closets: Some homeowners are taking space away from second and third bedrooms to gain space for a walk-in master closet. These oversized, walk-in closets can sometimes hold year-round wardrobes with no seasonal switch out necessary. Those without an extra bedroom to spare can gain space from another, smaller area of the home or enhance current closet space with a custom design. Overall, these custom closet systems maximize space and keep clothes, shoes and accessories neat and organized.
4. Super Pantries: In kitchens, some homeowners are creating “super pantries,” which go beyond food storage to offer versatile space for many different projects. Like an exaggerated butler’s pantry or scullery, a super pantry can include prep space, open storage, room for secondary appliances and craft or gift wrapping stations, all with the purpose of reducing clutter in the main kitchen and creating a more usable space.
