UniWorld Group, Inc., Connecting Brands with Multicultural Consumers Since 1969 and Partnering with The Home Depot for More Than 20 Years

July 14, 2022

When Byron Lewis founded UniWorld Group, Inc. (UWG) in 1969, he saw the need for an advertising agency that bridged the gap between brands and multicultural consumers. Byron understood the economic power and influence of diverse communities, solidifying his status as one of the founders of multicultural advertising.

Today, UWG is the longest-standing, full-service, multicultural advertising and marketing agency in the United States, and has been partnering with The Home Depot for more than 20 years.

For the past five decades, UWG has worked with a vast portfolio of clients, helping companies empower, educate, entertain and engage their consumers. One of their longest partnerships has been with The Home Depot, and the collaboration of the Retool Your School program that launched in 2009.

UWG worked with The Home Depot to develop the Retool Your School program as a way for the company to give back to our nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The program has provided more than $5 million dollars in campus improvement grants that allow HBCUs to make sustainable improvements to their campuses.

The 2022 Retool Your School Winners’ Announcement Ceremony took place in April and had the largest engagement for a winners’ ceremony since the program’s inception. The event was hosted by actor and Howard University alumnus Laz Alonso, and the guest speaker was actor, presenter and NCA&T alumnus Terrence J.

“The impact of our work together on the Retool Your School program to change the lives of HBCU students through campus improvement is first among our favorite things about partnering with The Home Depot,” says Monique Nelson, UWG Chair and CEO. “We’re proud to be part of this group.”
