In Wake of Maria, The Home Depot Foundation Increases Disaster Relief Commitment to $3 Million While the Company Continues Command Center Operations

The Home Depot Foundation on Friday pledged $500,000 to the Hurricane Maria relief effort in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, increasing its disaster relief commitment to $3 million since Hurricane Harvey struck Texas in August.

The announcement follows the Foundation’s previous $2.5 million commitment to relief efforts in areas impacted by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma - which included Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands - as well as the recent earthquakes in Mexico.

The company’s Disaster Response Command Center remains open at its Store Support Center in Atlanta. There, Home Depot Operations, Merchandising and Supply Chain teams are partnering with federal agencies to assess the recovery needs of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

All of the Home Depot stores in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands have now reopened. Home Depot teams from Atlanta to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. Croix are working to replenish these stores as quickly as possible.

In addition, The Homer Fund, The Home Depot’s employee assistance program, has helped nearly 5,000 associates affected by the recent disasters by providing urgent emergency financial assistance.

Meanwhile, Team Depot volunteers have been deployed for relief projects in Houston and South Florida communities in response to Harvey and Irma.
