For many Team Depot volunteers, it’s more than doing a good deed—it’s a chance to give back and make a difference in the community. When veteran couple, Mary and Dwight Blanchard, were unable to fix the fence that fell behind their Arizona home, Team Depot stepped in to help.
The volunteers provided new outdoor space, new kitchen appliances and LifeProof flooring throughout the home. Dwight said that the renovations would make life easier and more enjoyable, especially when his grandchildren come to visit.
“Throughout the entire experience, Mary kept saying they didn’t deserve all of this and asking, ‘why us?’ Of course, our answer was ‘why not?'” recalls Ryan Braddy, foundation field manager. “It always feels good to give back to those that sacrificed so much to keep us safe and protect our freedoms.”
The story of Mary and Dwight is a testament to the dedication of Team Depot. Whether providing relief after a disaster, training skilled tradespeople or giving back to veterans in need, Team Depot is committed to strengthening communities.
The associate-led volunteer force has been involved in more than 43,000 projects to improve veteran homes and facilities in more than 4,300 cities. Supported by The Home Depot Foundation, the “Orange Army” seeks to improve the lives of veterans and respond to disaster in communities.
“I wish people knew that most of our associates volunteer on their off days and don’t get paid to volunteer,” says Team Depot Specialist Stephanie Burton. “The fact that our associates take the time to continuously give back speaks a lot to what makes our company great.”
