On July 25, Hurricane Hanna made landfall in Corpus Christi, Texas. As it continued across the state and into Northern Mexico, strong winds and heavy rainfall threatened flash floods, especially in the Rio Grande Valley. According to weather.gov, Hurricane Hanna caused flooding rainfall, power outages and an array of structural damage.
In response, Team Depot associates from stores #506 and #6577 volunteered to build and distribute 400 relief buckets in partnership with the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley. Sponges, gloves, paper towels, toilet paper, flashlights and trash bags were among the supplies packed into the buckets to help residents deal with water damage.
In keeping with COVID-19 safety measures, those in need were encouraged to pop their trunks, allowing associates following social distancing and wearing PPE to deliver the relief buckets in a contact-less delivery.
