Team Depot and The Home Depot Foundation Support Lake Charles After Hurricane Laura

September 01, 2020

Hurricane Laura severely affected Louisiana, especially the Lake Charles area. The community experienced devastating winds that destroyed buildings and left many without power.

To help, The Home Depot Foundation partnered with World Central Kitchen to give residents nearly 1,300 hot meals. The Foundation provided the financial support and offered the Lake Charles Home Depot store parking lot for World Central Kitchen to create a pop-up meal distribution on Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30.

In further support, The Home Depot’s associate volunteer force, Team Depot, assembled 1,000 disaster relief kits for the Lake Charles area. Local organizations identified by The City of Lake Charles’ Mayor’s Office will distribute the kits to community residents and first responders. Kit items include essential cleaning and sanitization products like garbage bags, water, gloves, toilet paper and more.

The Home Depot Foundation supports communities impacted by natural disasters in partnership with national nonprofit partners. To date in 2020, the Foundation has committed $4 million to disaster relief in support of short-term relief and long-term rebuilding.
