After 14 years wearing an orange apron, Casey never thought she’d be in a situation that would no longer let her work in our aisles.
When Casey found out she had stage four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, she was determined not to let a diagnosis stand in her way. “She told us, ‘I’m going to work. I’m going to be here,’ but then it became that she couldn’t anymore,” remembers Jennifer, assistant store department supervisor.
Jennifer and her team rallied together to bring strength back to Casey, emotionally and financially. Through The Homer Fund, a nonprofit charity that helps take care of Home Depot associates in need, the team was able to make a huge impact. The money raised by her store was matched by The Homer Fund to help Casey cover her medical and household expenses while battling cancer. “I believe it helped in my healing, because it was one big thing I didn’t have to worry about,” reflects Casey. "I could pay my rent. I could buy my groceries. I could still go on.” See more of Casey’s story and her support from The Homer Fund and her fellow associates in the video below.
