The Home Depot operates 120 stores and employs 15,000 associates across Mexico, making the recent earthquakes especially personal for the company’s associates not only there, but also in the U.S. and Canada.
With that in mind, The Home Depot Foundation has increased the company’s commitment to help Mexico’s communities rebuild to $500,000. The commitment adds to previous donations made for the first earthquake that struck last week.
Funding is being provided to several local and international relief agencies such as Team Rubicon and Operation Blessing, and locally, TECHO.
These nonprofits partner regularly with The Home Depot Foundation and stores to help communities recover from a host of natural disasters, including the recent hurricanes.
“The past few weeks have been heart-wrenching, in terms of disasters,” said Shannon Gerber, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation. “But that’s our purpose – not only supporting our veterans, but also lending a hand through funding our partnering nonprofits and volunteerism when these tragedies occur.”
