Service men and women say goodbye to their families, homes and comforts for the greater good of our country. Best case, they return home and smoothly transition back into civilian life. But what happens when they are injured overseas, and what if that includes sustaining a traumatic brain injury?
The SHARE Military Initiative at Shepherd Center in Atlanta is a comprehensive rehabilitation program that focuses on helping veterans with mild to moderate traumatic brain injuries from service in post-9/11 conflicts recover through treatment, support and education.
Since 2008, The Home Depot Foundation has granted $1.29 million to the efforts of Shepherd Center and SHARE. Recently, Team Depot volunteers built a “Tool Shop” for patients to use during day programs at the center. This new shop will allow patients to work with their hands to build and create DIY projects.
Home Depot tool vendors Ryobi and Husky helped make the tool shop a reality by donating thousands of dollars in hand tools, workbenches and cabinets.
