This year during the eighth annual Celebration of Service, The Home Depot Foundation and Team Depot traded orange for military green to honor the men and women who sacrificed for our country with volunteer projects across the country – with a goal of accumulating 100,000 service hours.
Today, Team Depot surpassed that goal with a project at The Home Depot Backyard in Atlanta, as well as other signature events in Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles yesterday. The Atlanta event included appearances by Home Depot co-founder Arthur Blank and CEO Craig Menear, who announced The Home Depot Foundation’s new commitment of half of a billion dollars to veteran causes.
Volunteers partnered with local non-profits like Habitat for Humanity, Top Dogg K9 Foundation and more to build play houses, dog beds and picnic tables, as well as frame walls, assemble apartment starter kits and more for the veteran community.
Since 2011, The Home Depot Foundation has transformed more than 40,000 homes and facilities for veterans across the country. Giving back to veterans is personal to The Home Depot, as more than 35,000 of the company’s associates have served in the military.
