Each year, Team Depot leaders from across the country gather to determine how to do even more to give back in our communities.
During the Community Captains Summit, our associate volunteers discuss doing more for veterans by sharing best practices from different corners of the country and planning for future projects.
We caught up with a few of our Community Captains to hear about Team Depot success stories and their motivation for giving back.
What is the Community Captains Summit?
KL: The summit is all about bringing Team Depot Community Captains together to exchange ideas. We are all doing great things in the community, and it’s interesting to hear different approaches to success. When you look across the room, see such great representatives from across the country and hear about their impactful projects, it makes me excited about our leadership and all we can accomplish.
What is your most memorable experience working with Team Depot?
KL: I helped renovate Main Street in Moore, Okla. a year after the area was devastated by tornadoes. Seeing the impact of a disaster like that in a small community, even a year later, was impactful. You could feel how close to home it hit for associates, store managers and community members. They are affected by the disaster, but also a huge part of the ongoing rebuilding effort.
What inspired you to join Team Depot?
KL: Once I did my first Team Depot project I was hooked. When you drive away from a completed project and realize the difference you’ve made, it’s amazing. I’ve always encouraged my region to get involved. Not only is giving back a core value of mine, but it’s a core value of the company.
I believe every orange-blooded associate is truly committed to giving back, being a part of the community and trying to make a difference.
Why is being involved in Team Depot meaningful for you?
DC: My brother served in Afghanistan, so I’m passionate about our focus on veterans. It’s been a challenge for my brother to assimilate back into civilian life, as it is for so many, so being able to help veterans overcome challenges through working with Team Depot has been truly meaningful.
What are the key things that you discuss during the Community Captains Summit?
DC: During our time together, we talk about how we can make our associate volunteerism even greater by sharing best practices on topics like preparing for projects. It’s not only a time to discuss ideas and learnings, but it’s a great opportunity to get everyone together and fired up for our upcoming Celebration of Service season.
What does Team Depot’s mission mean to you?
DC: Team Depot’s mission is about having an avenue to give back to a cause that everyone can get behind – supporting the men and women who have put their lives on the line for our freedom. It’s about using the means we have as a company with compassionate and hard working associates to give back to those who have served us.
