As the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season officially begins on June 1, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) urges residents to prepare for what’s expected to be another active year for severe weather. Early preparation is key to staying safe during hurricanes, wildfires and other natural disasters.
“Each year, the United States averages some 10,000 thunderstorms, 5,000 floods, 1,300 tornadoes and 2 Atlantic hurricanes, as well as widespread droughts and wildfires. Weather, water and climate events, cause an average of approximately 650 deaths and $15 billion in damage per year and are responsible for some 90 percent of all presidentially-declared disasters.” - NOAA
In the spirit of preparedness, The Home Depot Foundation is taking proactive steps to support communities across the country. Recently, 400 volunteers from Team Depot—The Home Depot’s associate-led volunteer force—assembled nearly 4,000 disaster clean-up kits in collaboration with nonprofit partner Convoy of Hope. Filled with essentials like cleaning supplies, trash bags, work gloves, N95 masks and more, these kits are designed to help residents in the immediate aftermath of natural disasters.
Once packed, the kits are stored in Convoy of Hope distribution centers, ready to deploy when disaster strikes. This rapid-response approach helps volunteers and nonprofit partners provide swift support to affected areas when it’s needed most.
This kitting event builds on The Home Depot Foundation’s broader commitment to disaster readiness and recovery. So far in 2025, the Foundation has committed $8.5 million to support communities through all phases of disaster relief. That includes a $5.5 million investment announced this spring to enhance response and long-term recovery efforts—supporting initiatives like resilience hubs, debris removal, home repairs, and new pilots like First Responder and Kid Care Kits. Earlier this year, a $3 million grant was also dedicated to wildfire response in Southern California.

The Foundation's support extends well beyond the immediate aftermath of a disaster. From skilled trades training to home repair efforts in storm-ravaged communities, the goal is to help people recover and rebuild—stronger and more resilient than before. During and after disasters, Team Depot volunteers are often on the ground, working alongside The Home Depot Foundation’s nonprofit partners to deliver supplies, support cleanup, and provide a helping hand where it's needed most.
“For more than 30 years, Team Depot has shown up for communities in times of need,” said Erin Izen, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation. “Thanks to our nonprofit partners and the incredible dedication of our associates, we’re able to respond faster and support recovery for the long haul.”
Since 2011, The Home Depot Foundation has partnered with over 10,000 nonprofits, and Team Depot has donated more than 2.5 million volunteer hours to serve veterans, respond to disasters, and support community needs nationwide. As disaster season begins, The Home Depot and its Foundation remain committed to building stronger, more prepared communities—before, during and after the storm.
