Yesterday, The Home Depot joined in celebration with Gov. Nathan Deal, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Senator Saxby Chambliss and more than 100 others to sign documents signaling the next step in the deepening of the Savannah River.
“Global shippers will migrate to the most efficient and expedient options as a matter of necessity, so the Savannah port expansion is absolutely critical for Georgia to maintain its standing as one of the world’s most important shipping corridors for the years to come,” said Mark Holifield, executive vice president – supply chain and product development for The Home Depot.
Holifield was joined by Home Depot CEO Frank Blake and Chief Financial Officer Carol Tomé at the festivities at the company’s Locust Grove Direct Fulfillment Center (DFC). Approximately 4,000 containers each year will come through the Port of Savannah to the Locust Grove DFC, representing 12,000 tons of goods from approximately 100 unique vendors.
