ATLANTA, April 12, 2024 — The Home Depot awarded 42 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with nearly $3 million in grants for campus enhancements at the annual Retool Your School Awards Celebration. Albany State University, South Carolina State University and Paine College placed first in their respective clusters, each winning a $150,000 grant.

From painting a local veteran’s house his favorite shade of purple, to supporting a foster care system, Dawayne Gates, store manager in Houma, Louisiana, knows how to encourage fellow associates to get in the Team Depot spirit.

Morris Brown College, a historically Black college in Atlanta, Georgia, has experienced its share of setbacks and challenges over the years. From almost closing in 2012 to graduating its largest class in 20 years this month, the institution has proven to be resilient.

42 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will enhance their campuses this year after being awarded nearly $3 million in grants from The Home Depot’s Retool Your School program. This year marks the 15th anniversary of campus improvements.
