“The spaces where we live, work, play, learn and heal have a huge impact on our lives,” explains Susan Farris, vice president of sustainability and corporate communications at Shaw Industries. “That's why we're committed to using safe ingredients and designing sustainable products.”
Shaw’s commitment has paid off. At the 2018 Innovation Awards, The Home Depot selected Shaw Industries for this year’s top environmental honors for its industry-leading efforts to reduce the chemicals of concern in flooring products and increase recycled content. In 2017, Shaw used more than 3.5 billion plastic bottles in the manufacturing of its carpet.
“We rely on partners like Shaw Floors to bring quality, affordable products to our customers that have a reduced environmental footprint,” says Ron Jarvis, The Home Depot's vice president of environmental innovation. “Working together, Shaw has helped us buy more green product and also green the product we buy.”
Almost 90 percent of the products Shaw manufactures are Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM, a multi-attribute designation for sustainable product design. This includes all polyester and nylon carpet and solid and engineered hardwood flooring sold at The Home Depot.
“We're honored to be recognized by The Home Depot for our efforts to create a better future for our customers, associates and communities,” says Farris.
