The Home Depot Expands Chemical Standards to Include Cleaning Products

April 20, 2018

The household cleaning aisle is about to get greener.

The Home Depot has asked its suppliers to exclude nine chemicals from residential household cleaning chemical products sold online and in The Home Depot stores by the end of 2022. This announcement builds on the company’s chemical management strategy, first published in October 2017, as well as its commitment to work with suppliers to improve chemicals in categories with the greatest potential to impact indoor air quality.

“We are always looking for opportunities to work with our suppliers to improve environmental product impacts,” said Ron Jarvis, vice president of environmental innovation. “Excluding certain chemicals from cleaning products is another example of our shared commitment to building a better future for our customers and the planet.”

With a wide variety of eco-friendly products, customers have many choices for green cleaning. The Home Depot’s Eco Options® program continues to identify environmentally preferred products backed by third-party certifications. For example, Simple Green’s All-Purpose Cleaner Concentrate is backed by the EPA Safer Choice® label and method® home all-purpose cleaners are Cradle to Cradle Certified™.
