The Home Depot recycled more than 15.1 million pounds of plastic waste from stores in 2019. This was achieved through a process that collects and consolidates wood and plastic waste to create Trex composite decking material rather than sending it on to landfills.
The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) has recognized Ron Jarvis, The Home Depot’s Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Environmental Innovation, with the 2020 Supply Chain Sustainability Award for his leadership on the project.
“We understand that our biggest impact on the environment is from the products we sell, and our partnership with Trex supports The Home Depot’s commitment to contribute to the circular economy,” says Ron. “I want to thank our customers, associates and suppliers for their continued support of our ongoing sustainability efforts.”
Ron and the project were evaluated for vision, innovation, impact, execution quality, execution speed and stakeholder engagement before receiving the award. From The Home Depot stores, distribution and reverse logistics centers, to manufacturers, back to stores and customer homes, the project stretches across The Home Depot’s entire supply chain.
Today, Trex is the industry-leading composite decking product at The Home Depot stores and is made of 95% recycled materials. Learn more about The Home Depot’s commitment to sustainability in the 2020 Responsibility Report.
