Team Depot volunteers are hard at work this fall improving homes for veterans across the U.S., but did you know many of Home Depot’s orange-aproned associates are veterans themselves? In fact, more than 35,000 of our associates once served in the U.S. armed forces.
This commitment to hiring veterans hasn’t gone unnoticed. Earlier this month, The Home Depot was named Large Employer of the Year at The American Legion’s 97th National Convention in Baltimore, Md. The award recognizes the company for its outstanding record in the hiring and retention of veterans.
“We rely on associates who are knowledgeable, hardworking and solution-oriented to provide top-notch service to our customers,” said Eric Schelling, The Home Depot’s director of Talent Acquisition, who accepted the award on behalf of the company. “Men and women with military experience have shown us again and again that they have these attributes. They’re highly skilled, motivated, and they’re terrific representatives of the communities they served – exactly what we look for in a Home Depot associate.”
