Birdhouses, binoculars and toy airplanes were just some of the Kids Workshops offered inside The Home Depot stores before classes paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, with the launch of virtual workshops online at homedepot.com/c/kids, those projects are available to kids – and parents – everywhere.
New virtual projects will be added regularly to keep kids engaged, and actual kits will be available for free at local Home Depot stores on the first Saturday of each month. In addition to supplying individuals with in-store pickup, The Home Depot has also donated more than 500,000 Kids Workshop kits to nonprofit organizations and schools. More than 100 organizations received kits including Boys & Girls Club of America, ToolBank and YMCA. Donations will continue across the country until workshops can resume safely.
“While our in-store classes are on hold, we’re thrilled to continue to support the next generation of doers through our nonprofit partners and online workshop programs,” says The Home Depot’s executive vice president of merchandising Ted Decker. “Home Depot Kids Workshops have been a staple of our brand since the program launched in 1997, giving more than 60 million children their first DIY experiences during that time.”
In addition to virtual Kids Workshops, Home Depot’s live-streaming series, “Homeowner 101,” will receive new episodes this fall. Adults in need of how-to help can enjoy videos led by expert associates tackling DIY topics like drywall repair, painting and tiling.
Additional how-to videos are available for doers of all ages on The Home Depot YouTube channel.
