In select parking lots, we use automated license plate recognition (ALPR) systems to help us prevent and investigate theft, fraud, and organized retail crime. We want to address how we use this technology and how we protect your information.
We are committed to maintaining a welcoming environment for everyone at our stores, while staying compliant with the laws that govern the markets where we operate.
1. Safety and Crime Prevention
- Safety First: We use ALPR technology to keep our customers and associates safe and prevent and investigate theft, fraud, and other crimes.
- No Facial Recognition: Our ALPR systems do not use facial recognition or biometric technology.
- Non-Discrimination: We do not use ALPR systems to monitor or target individuals based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, or immigration status.
2. Access to ALPR Systems or Data
- No Federal Agency Access: The Home Depot only grants access to our ALPR system to authorized local and in-state law enforcement agencies. We do not allow access to our ALPR systems or database for immigration enforcement, nor have we given federal agencies access to our ALPR systems or our ALPR database.
- No Unauthorized Sharing: Unauthorized sharing would violate the terms and conditions of our sharing arrangements and would lead to the suspension or termination of access to our ALPR systems.
3. Data Retention and Vendor Oversight
- Retention Period: Our data retention policies comply with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
- Vendor Oversight: Any ALPR company we work with must complete security and privacy reviews before we work with them. We regularly audit their compliance as part of our ongoing vendor oversight.
