Zac Brown and Team Depot “Choose to Serve” at Camp Southern Ground
“Salute the ones who died, and the ones that gave their lives so we don't have to sacrifice all the things we love.”
Those words rang loud from the campfire at Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum artist, Zac Brown of The Zac Brown Band’s Camp Southern Ground, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, as the band performed their famed “Chicken Fried” to kick off Celebration of Service.
On September 7, hundreds of Team Depot associates, including more than 175 veterans, spent their days off helping transform the camp – from the lower ropes courses to helping build the lodging facility that will serve veterans. For 42 weeks of the year, Camp Southern Ground serves veterans and their families as they transition back from the service into civilian life.
“Supporting veterans and their families is something we’re very passionate about at Camp Southern Ground,” said Mike Dobbs, CEO of Camp Southern Ground. “We are honored to partner with Team Depot during Celebration of Service to work together to serve our nation’s heroes.”
Throughout the day of service, Team Depot volunteers built 45 benches, 15 archery stands, 10 demonstration tables and spread 15 tons of mulch and 75 tons of gravel at the camp’s fire pit and low ropes course.
As the day came to a close, USMC EOD and veteran advisor to Camp Southern Ground, Joey Jones reminded use all why we chose to serve, “The ultimate form of patriotism is to love someone you don't know, just because you share this country with them.”
