The Home Depot and the Military

The Home Depot has a rich and proud history of support for the United States Armed Forces through a wide range of sponsorships and activities. The Home Depot is dedicated to supporting and honoring our men and women in uniform and their families through our business practices and volunteer donations.

In 2005, The Home Depot hired 17,000 military job seekers, including veterans, separating active duty service members, National Guard members, reservists and military spouses, through Operation Career Front. Operation Career Front provides career opportunities for current and former members of America’s military community, military spouses and other dependants. The Home Depot works to link members of the military community with rewarding career challenges that allow them to utilize skills learned and honed while serving our country. Interested applicants can find out more on this unique opportunity at any Home Depot or online at www.careers.homedepot.com/military.

As part of the company’s ongoing support of our armed forces, The Home Depot has introduced several programs to provide financial security and peace of mind for associates who are currently serving or are with the Guard and Reserve programs:

  • Project Homefront has pledge $1 million and more than one million service hours to help military families with home repair while their loved ones are away on active duty.
  • The Home Depot equalized play and benefits for its active duty associates who are currently serving our country.
  • The Home Depot has donated $1 million in tools to support the U.S. Military in Iraq.
  • In 2005, The Home Depot donated $283,231 in grants to the USO for refurbishments to 10 USO centers and to its headquarters for general programs and services.
  • In 2006, The Home Depot donated more than $245,000 worth of small grants to VFW posts and the American Legion through the CommUnity Impact Grant program.

Military Awards

The Home Depot is the largest employer of military personnel in the United States and Canada. In fact, if The Home Depot employees were a country unto itself, we would rank 5th among countries for soldiers deployed in the Operation Iraqi Freedom War. Those employees bring a wealth of experience to our stores. We’re proud to have received numerous honors for our support of the military community including:
